Metal Mesh HVAC Filters

Reusable HVAC air filters help extend the life of your equipment, reduce maintenance costs and cut utility bills. Our Mesh Filter protects the air intake of an HVAC unit from large outdoor contaminants with its durable, corrosion-resistant materials. The filter delivers very low airflow restriction, which reduces energy consumption and costs. Shop standard sizes or order a custom electrostatic filter below:

Electrostatic Air Filter Features:

  • Universal Fit: Any existing filter rack system in 1″ or 2″ thickness.
  • Maximum Durability: Operates in extreme outdoor or indoor exposure, corrosive chemicals, high-velocity air flow and industrial cleaning and maintenance.
  • Applications: Commercial and Industrial Furnace Filters, Rooftop Air Handling Unit (AHU) or Make Up Air Unit (MAU), Swamp Coolers, Boats, Marine Applications and any high moisture areas.
  • Industries Served: Aerospace, Crypto Mining, Data Center, School Districts, Air Filter Banks, Food Processing, HVACR, Medical, Office Buildings, Processing Plants.
  • Filter Efficiency: MERV 6 rated filter. 80-85% Efficient for particles of 3 to 10 microns in size. MERV claims are to be used as a guide for general comparison and not as a specification.
  • Energy Efficiency: It saves energy costs by minimizing airflow resistance with a low pressure-drop.
  • Corrosion Resistance: 100% polyester and polypropylene media will not shed fibers, absorb moisture or promote bacterial growth.
  • UL 900 Classified as to Flammability Only

Permanent Air Filter Construction

  • The EC Series Filter uses polypropylene media to generate a passive electrostatic charge as air passes through it.
  • A polyester media pad then catches airborne particles such as dust, pollen, mold, bacteria and lint particles, trapping the debris until being washed away.
  • Corner drain holes prevent water from pooling which facilitates faster drying time.
  • The filter frame is made from sturdy, rust resistant aluminum channel.

How to Clean Reusable Air Filter

  • The EC Series should be cleaned every 30 days, or as often as necessary to maximize effectiveness. As with any filter, as dust loads its efficiency diminishes and air resistance increases, so a well- maintained filter will last longer and cost less.
  • To clean a dirty filter, rinse it with a moderate-to-heavy stream of warm water in the opposite direction of the airflow. Pre-soaking the filter in a solution of warm water and mild detergent prior to rinsing is acceptable. High-powered steam cleaning or chemical dips are unnecessary and not recommended.

What Size Air Filter Do I Need?

  • What does Nominal mean? Standard size filters are of a nominal dimension. This means the height and width dimensions are undercut by a certain amount. Custom size filters are made to the exact size specified when ordered, so measure twice to be sure!
  • Available Filter Thicknesses: 1⁄2” is exact, nominal 1” (actual 7/8”) and nominal 2” (actual 1-3/4”).
  • Standard nominal filters are 1⁄2”undercut on the height and width dimensions. Example: A standard 16×25 will be made 15.50×24.50 Exact.
  • Special size filters are made to the exact height and width dimensions provided. Example: 18.25×23.75 will be made exactly 18.25×23.75.
  • Tolerance Length and Width: ± 1/8”
  • Tolerance Thickness: ± 1/16”

Reusable Air Filters in Commercial Office Buildings

As many states re-open and businesses begin resuming operations, it is important to take the necessary precautions to create a safe and healthy environment for office building occupants. Air filtration is now a key factor in improving indoor air quality. Contaminants that present specific problems in commercial offic espaces include: plant and animal allergens, gases and odors, bioaerosols (viruses, bacteria, fungal spores) and particles, specifically below 2.5 microns in size (PM2.5).

Mounting evidence shows that the small droplets and aerosols created from talking, sneezing, and coughing pose the largest risk to spreading any airborne disease.  It is critical that building HVAC systems be evaluated to ensure they are operating properly, especially if they had a prolonged system shutdown. The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) has created a standard practice for inspection and maintenance of HVAC systems here to help guide you.

In most large commercial buildings, HVAC systems are designed to filter air before it is distributed through the facility. There are multiple phases of filtration, each stage receiving higher filtration efficiency. The problem is that these systems pull in a vast amount of outside air, and with it large airborne contaminants that can damage the high-efficiency filters further down in the equipment. This increases maintenance costs as equipment receives repairs and costly replacement filters.

A simple way to improve your indoor air quality (IAQ) is to upgrade your air intake prefilters. Depending your existing system, upgrading the first stage of air filtration could be as easy as just replacing your current filter screens with our upgraded EC Series washable electrostatic air filter. It is important that before upgrading air filters, that you know the HVAC unit’s initial and final pressure drop, assuring the pressure drop is less than the fan’s capability with the higher efficiency replacement filters.

Prefilter for Rooftop Air Handling Unit (AHU)

A Rooftop Air Handling Unit (AHU) is an HVAC system that maintains comfort conditions in a zone by providing a constant volume of air that varies according to load. Rooftop units may often come with an economizer hood, which is an air intake system programmed to pull fresh outside air into the building when the optimal air temperature matches the desired indoor temperature. It helps to “economize” energy usage and is an important accessory for Rooftop AHUs.

Economizer hoods require an air intake filter, or economizer filter screen, to protect the equipment from large outdoor airborne contaminants. An electrostatic air filter is a great upgrade for economizer filter because it provides more filter efficiency than a traditional metal mesh economizer filter.

Intake filter for Make-Up Air (MUA) Equipment

Make-up air (MUA) equipment is an HVAC system designed to provide ventilation air into a space ore replace air exhausted from the building. An example of MUA units for commercial building use is the parking garage where the units provides replacement outside air when contaminated vehicle air is exhausted.

An MUA unit operations on 100% outside air and often includes a Make-Up Air intake hood with reusable air filter installed. The washable intake filter protects the equipment from large outdoor airborne contaminants just like an economizer screen. The electrostatic air filter is an optional upgrade for air intakes because it filters more contaminants than the OEM metal mesh air filter.
